The Details
Strand as a holiday destination rarely makes it as a top choice among holiday-makers coming to the Western Cape, which is a pity because this lovely seaside town has so much to offer. Hopefully we’re able to convince you to experience Strand for yourself with a lovely stay for two people at Strand Guest House.

About Strand Guest House

The managers of Strand Guest House pride themselves on keeping their accommodation clean and homely while providing friendly service to guests. You’ll find the rooms well appointed, beds large and comfy and a kitchen to make full use of. WiFi is available throughout the guest house so that guests needn’t digitally disconnect during their stay; there’s secure parking on the property behind remote controlled gates for peace of mind.

Strand Guest House have in-house tour operators available to organise and take you on a variety of tours. This is great if this is your first time in the Western Cape and you aren’t sure where to go and what to see. Options include a wine tour, cheetah tour, Aquila Safari tour, shark cage diving tour, penguin colony tour, and a zipline canopy day tour. Enquire with the merchant upon booking if you’re interested in any of these tours.

Strand Beach

Strand’s water is of the warmest in the Cape where you can actually enjoy a swim without your toes curling and cramping. The beach is very popular among families and you’ll notice children with their body boards catching waves, or toddlers building sandcastles while mothers keep a watchful eye from under a beach umbrella. Strand’s beach is also extensive, with plenty of space for everyone, unlike Camps Bay or Clifton where it may feel cramped.

Restaurants

Strand has plenty of restaurants (some with incredible sea views) to suit every taste and occasion. There’s Ben’s on The Beach, a beach bar that not only offers a relaxed vibe and delicious food, but also gorgeous views of False Bay and the Hottentots Holland Mountains.

On the edge of False Bay lies Belgian charm and hospitality in the form of De Brasserie, an excellent restaurant to consider if you’re in the mood for formal dining and exquisite cuisine set against the backdrop of the ocean.

A little further afield in Gordon’s Bay at Harbour Island is Berties Moorings, a great spot for sundowner cocktails, pizza and seafood. Every Friday and Sunday evening Berties Moorings has live music nights. If you love 80s music, then The Thirsty Oyster Tavern with its fun and sometimes rowdy atmosphere is where you should be. Located in the old harbour, you can choose whether you’d like to dine at their restaurant, or relax in the bar area watching a live band while enjoying delicious pub grub.

Fish and Chips

What is a holiday by the sea without enjoying traditional take-away fish and chips? In Gordon’s Bay you’re spoiled for choice. The most popular choice among residents is Ooskus Fisheries but if you’re looking for fish and chips (or calamari and chips) with a view, head to Trawlers located on the beach front.

Exploring your surroundings

Strand's location allows you easy access to a variety of popular towns and activities.  Talke a drive over Sir Lowry’s Pass (and watch for whales) to Rooi Els, Pringle Bay and Betty’s Bay. While in Betty’s Bay explore the Harold Porter Botanical Garden and have tea and cake at the Red Disa restaurant. Hermanus is less than an hour away, perfect for a day visit to the popular whale-watching town and home to the Whale Festival (28 - 30 September 2018).
The other side of Strand, towards Somerset West, provides you with the opportunity to explore the Winelands and indulge in both wine tasting and dining in Stellenbosch and beyond. From Stellenbosch, drive to Franschhoek to experience the European-like charm of Franschhoek, and afterwards perhaps head towards Paarl to buy cheese at Fairview and take photos of their resident goats.

On the R44, between Somerset West and Stellenbosch, is the Route 44 Market. Pop in to experience a wonderful family atmosphere and tasty market food. To visit Cape Town for the day is as easy as getting on to the N2 from Strand and driving straight.
