Summer’s practically here - time to book that holiday out in the Winelands and fully embrace the warmer weather!
Being away from the city is sometimes all it takes to help you de-stress and back into first gear, and with the end-of-year approaching you’ve got to take your relaxation where you can.
Hawksmoor House is located within easy driving distance from Cape Town. The rustic, farm-style accommodation lies in the heart of the Winelands, in close proximity to prestigious wineries, boutique stores, cafes, restaurants, art galleries, and markets. Stay close to home if you like, Hawksmoor House have their own tasting room, as well as expansive lawns to lay down a blanket and have a picnic.
Outdoorsmen will be pleased to know that there are numerous hiking opportunities in the area. Jonkershoek Nature Reserve is nature’s haven and a popular place to hike on one of their many trails through rugged terrain. If you like to golf, De Zalze Golf Estate and Devondale Golf & Wine Estate both have Championship 18-hole courses that offer rewarding but challenging rounds for the novice and experienced players alike.
The Manor House, The Slave Quarters, the Dairy Rooms and Edge House, are all original footprints of the historic farm, converted with great flair by the owners, and furnished with an elegant mix of beautiful antique pieces.
Each building offers a different perspective on the landscape and farm, and each room is individually decorated. No matter what room you stay in, the experience is consistently elegant and the hospitality warm and relaxed.
Aside from a discerning selection of antique furniture and beautiful fabrics, all rooms offer queen size or twin beds, digital safes, elegant en-suite bathrooms with showers and/or baths, underfloor heating and tea/coffee making facilities.
The grounds are laid out to include a large lawn, reflecting pond, lavender beds, vegetable, rose and herb gardens, a gorgeous wine cellar with a fireplace and a swimming pool offering magnificent views towards Table Mountain.
The sundowner verandah offers spectacular sunset views. Savour a glass of Hawksmoor's boutique wines, made solely from grapes grown and harvested at Matjieskuil Farm.
Spend the day exploring the historical oak-lined streets of Stellenbosch where you’ll come across a plethora of coffee shops and cafés, interesting clothing boutiques, artisan shops, galleries and museums. For shopping, head to Eikestad Mall.
