Beautiful, relaxed and intimate
We stayed at Ngama for 3 nights for a short break. It is a beautifully secluded lodge (as they all are in this park), and the tents are so comfortable and wonderfully appointed. The bed is huge, there's a claw foot bath and a choice of two showers, comfy chairs both inside and on your deck, and plenty of tea, coffee, water and biscuits.
The food was excellent - generous breakfasts (don't load up too much on the pastries and cereal - there is hot breakfast to follow!), and three course dinner. My husband ate ostrich, steak, and stews, and I had plenty to eat even as a vegetarian. They were very accommodating, but do warn them ahead of time just in case.
We did a Bushwalk in the morning and it was great to stretch our legs. We saw zebras and impala on foot, and giraffe and honey badger tracks, to name a few. We also heard jackals fighting in the night, and best of all heard lions roaring at 3am.
Ngama was the perfect glamorous camping experience
Ngama exceeded our expectations for 'glamping.' We had a giraffe literally on our doorstep overnight! The rooms are gorgeous and include a private shower and toilet. The staff were exceptional. And the best thing was the South African food!
Pleasant bush stay
Ngama is a small, cosy bush camp with great hospitality. The tents are very private and comfortable with a lovely outside shower. The sound of laughing hyenas, yipping zebras and roaring lions were often heard which put an extra special touch to our bush experience.
The highlight of our stay was the unexpected romantic turndown. The warm bubble filled bath was surrounded by candles and rose petals and we even had bubbly on ice! We felt like royalty.Thank you to all at Ngama Lodge for making our stay very special.
Our favourite place in SA
My partner and I stayed here for four nights and it was our favourite place from our trip across South Africa. We drove in ourselves in a sedan, which required some skilled driving, but we were able to make it. Would recommend anyone doing the self-drive option to opt for a 4x4 if possible, especially if it's been raining.
The food here was the best food we'd had at any of the hotels which provided half-board. The cook and the staff overall are wonderful and very friendly, and eating dinner out in the Boma is a special experience. We found it to be very peaceful and enjoyed just spending the day on the deck in the sun.
The WiFi connection at the main lodge worked well for us and we did not have any problems with it. The tours that were arranged through the lodge were also great and very affordable.
We were able to self-drive the Panorama Route from here in one day. There is also the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Center nearby. You need to book your tour there in advance though, as they only have several in a day.
