If you fall into any one of those categories and it's on your bucket list to climb the tallest mountain in the world, then we suggest you don’t pass up this once-in-a-lifetime offer.

The journey up the mountain is not an easy one; climbers are pushed to their limits, and can face issues like altitude sickness, but, it’s also a life-changing experience that’s action-packed, fulfilling and incredibly humbling.

Your 15 day trek to the Everest Base Camp Trek grants you the full Himalayan Experience where you’re surrounded by cultural heritage and numerous natural wonders that you won’t find anywhere else in the world -  majestic snow-capped mountain peaks, and rare forms of flora and fauna that thrive in the high altitude.

While the trip includes many highlights, here are our favourites:

1. Namache Bazaar/Sherpa Capital:
Stopping over at Namche Bazaar/Sherpa Capital (Day Three), before heading to the base camp. The district is a popular trading hub that is always abuzz with activity as the local Sherpa people barter with each other over commodities like yak cheese and butter. Visit the three museums and learn about the local culture and way of life, as well as the indigenous vegetation.

2. Learn about ancient cultures that have thrived in these parts for centuries:
Pay your respects to the Tibetan Buddhists on a tour of the Namche Monastery and learn more about the Sherpa communities, their religion, customs and traditions.

3. Views & incredible scenery:
First sightings of Mt. Everest (also on day 3), and stunning views of other mountains, like Mt.Lhotse, Mt. Aba Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse at close quarters. Be sure to have your camera on your person to capture the magical snow-capped peaks.  Numerous vantage points can be found along the way.

4. Being one of a very select few who can say that they have been to the Base Camp
Reaching the Mount Everest Base Camp on day 9 - the experience is simply indescribable.

NEED-TO-KNOWS

Climbing Mt.Everest shouldn’t be a spur-of-the-moment decision as there are factors that need to be considered.

Health, Fitness & Training

It goes without saying that you need to be physically fit, healthy and committed.

Start preparing a few months ahead of time by:
  1. Bulking Up - build muscle and cardiovascular strength by running, walking, biking, swimming and hiking for at least every 45 minutes per day.
  2. It’s also a good idea to carry a weighted pack around to build endurance.
  3. If you have pre-existing medical conditions - heart, lung, and blood diseases, please let this be known.
Health Risks & Acclimatization
The higher you climb the greater your chances of developing Acute Mountain Sickness become. Acute Mountain Sickness is the result of there being less oxygen at higher altitudes, resulting in less oxygen circulating your blood and getting to your muscles.

To counter the impact, acclimatisation needs to happen during the early stages of the trek, the process of which helps you to better adjust and adapt to the lack of O2 in the atmosphere.

Meals
During the trek in the mountains, you will be served with typical Nepali food along with Tibetan, Continental, Italian, and Indian dishes. You will have access to hot chocolate, breads, drink, and snacks. Early morning breakfasts and dinners will be served at the tea houses or at the local lodges where you spend the night.

Sometimes, you’ll have on-the-go breakfast and the lunches from the camping overnight sites which you will take with you and eat along the way. At the climax of the trip, you will enjoy a celebration dinner in Kathmandu. Meals are not included.

 Accommodation
During your stay in Kathmandu, you will enjoy comfortable hotel accommodation, thereafter, basic twin sharing accommodations on the mountain trails at the standard lodges or tea houses.

You can request a single room but it costs an extra USD $250. That being said, you have to consider the remoteness of travelled places where single room may not be feasible.

Best times to travel

Spring and autumn are the most popular seasons to climb Mount Everest. Travelling in the summer comes with tremendous rewards for the passionate botanist.
