The Details
Are you looking for a budget-friendly holiday in Mozambique? East Africa Safaris is located in Xai Xai, a popular tourist town found along the coastal road between Maputo and the beautiful Inhambane beaches.
Due to East Africa Safaris' central location, it’s the ideal starting point from which to explore the area’s surrounding attractions. From here, you can plan a day trip to Maputo. Book a guided tour if you want to get the most out of your time in the vibrant city and get to know the local culture better. If it’s sun, sand and sea you’re after, Inhambane is a tropical paradise and, with its palm fronds, warm and clear waters, and beaches that stretch for miles, it's the best area for swimming, scuba diving and other recreational water sports.
Xai Xai Beach is closer to home and is safe for swimming and snorkelling. Its coral reef, which runs 1 km offshore, boasts incredible marine life and forms a tidal pool at low tide. If you visit during winter, your chances of spotting whales are greater.
Deep-sea fishing is another popular activity. Hire a boat from East Africa Safaris (there are two available) - tackle and bait are conveniently included.
It’s worth visiting the freshwater lakes. The birdlife is prolific, so be sure to bring a pair of binocs along with you.
Helpful things to know:
Where to eat:
East Africa Safaris has a bar and restaurant where you can try the local tipple and fresh seafood, all the while enjoying ocean vistas.
Restaurants in proximity to East Africa Safaris:
  • Nascer Do Sol
  • Paradise Magoo
  • Paraiso De Chidenguele (35 kilometres away on bumpy terrain - only accessible for those with a 2x4 or 4x4)
  • Zona Braza
What to pack:
Mozambique’s climate is fairly tropical and warm, making it a popular tourist destination year-round.
Pack warmer things if you visit during the winter months - between May and September - as the days are cooler and the evenings chilly. However, the further north you go, the less likely you are to experience the cold, even in mid-winter.
The rainy season occurs between October and April, with temperatures sitting between 22 to 28 degrees; it can get fairly warm and humid, but the regular rainfall provides relief from the heat. Be sure to pack a raincoat.
Currency used:
The local currency is the "metical," but dollars and rands are accepted in most places.
Money can be easily exchanged.
Your accommodation:
You and five others will stay in self-catering chalets featuring two private rooms, a semi-private loft with two single beds, a fully-equipped kitchen with a gas stove, and a braai area and verandah.
Fresh linen, towels and mosquito nets are provided.
