This means anyone of any age can be enthralled by one of the best outdoor park areas in Johannesburg. Here’s a tip: book in advance to enjoy a 10% discount as a group when spending R3500 or more! Birthday parties can be enjoyed at a discounted price, too.
At Buggy Parks, you don’t have to stress when the kids are heading your way with rumbling tummies. Instead, bring your own food and beverages that can be devoured alongside the racing tracks at shaded tables and seats. You can also chuck meat on the coals at the large drum braai or two mobile braais – all fitted with grids. If you’re not in the mood to pack something to eat or drink, you can order these from the Ngwenya Glass Village restaurants.
The village is situated just behind Buggy Parks. This would also be a great addition to the day’s itinerary – the kids can spend time at the playgrounds while you browse the mini stores!

5. Gold Reef City Theme Park
This is probably one of the most famous outdoor play areas in Johannesburg – we’re talking about none other than the award-winning Gold Reef City Theme Park. This is one of the biggest theme parks in the country and is fitted, among others, with 23 kids and seven family rides. An adrenaline rush is guaranteed with rides like the Golden Loop, Anaconda, UFO, Jozi Express, Miner’s Revenge and High Flying Maveric. And don’t forget about the Storm Chaser and the Tower of Terror! You can also go for a hop on the trampolines at Trampoline Park.
Gold Reef City has a fascinating historical tale, too. It is situated on the site of an old gold mine that closed in 1971. You will notice the park’s “gold rush” theme, which is an ode to the gold rush of Witwatersrand that commenced in 1886. The buildings on this site further mimic the architectural character of the same period. If sending time in the water is what you are after, then you should definitely check out some of the water parks in Gauteng.
