15. First Raadsaal Museum

The First Raadsaal in Bloemfontein is the oldest structure still standing, dating back to 1849. The Orange River Sovereignty’s Legislative Council and the Republic of the Orange Free State both used the First Raadsaal as an assembly hall after it had previously served as a church up until 1852. It was initially established in 1877 as a museum and declared a National Monument in 1936. As a result, it is rich in culture and history. The museum was rebuilt in 1975 to represent its fascinating historical role and opened to the public in July 1977.
