1. Enseleni Nature Reserve

Enseleni Nature Reserve

Almost exactly halfway between Empangeni and Richards Bay, the Enseleni Nature Reserve is a modest reserve of 293 hectares located just inland from the town of Richards Bay.

The reserve is divided by the Nseleni River, which gives rise to the reserve’s name and means “lair” or “place of the badger.” It also creates a stunning haven for wildlife. The river flows leisurely through the reserve before emptying into the Insesi or Nsesi Lake, located just outside Richards Bay Harbor.

There are also several larger mammals such as giraffes, wildebeest, zebra, impala, waterbuck, bushpig, duikers, and even hippos and crocs that occupy the reserve.

2. Alkantstrand Beach
