Alpha Equestrian Centre is based in the farming district of Simondium between Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Horse owners have always recognized the therapeutic benefits of riding. Today horses are also being used to facilitate emotional growth and healing for people in crisis. Horse-therapy has been very effective in building confidence and trust, learning boundaries, and impulse control in people struggling with addiction.

Fynbos, Orchards and Cape Winelands Outrides

Alpha Equestrian lies at the foothills of the Drakenstein Mountains outside Paarl. The area is rich in scenic beauty and steeped in history. The area was first colonised by Dutch, French and German settlers in the late 17th century, and their legacy – wine production and Cape Dutch architecture – can be seen throughout the area.

Several routes have been mapped out and will take riders through fruit orchards, vineyards, nature conservancies and pristine mountain fynbos.

On request outrides may include one or more wine tastings, or a stop for lunch on one of the area’s award-wining wine estates. The outrides are done on safe, schoolmaster horses who are much-loved and well-cared for due to the standards of qualification and knowledge. They are healthy and fit for purpose. The tack is in excellent condition and gives comfort to the rider.

The rides are both educational and enjoyable and leave the riders with a sense of peace and love for the countryside around them.
