Something new and affordable to be excited about, the Stellenbosch Wine Safaris offers a unique experience on an Open Safari Vehicle (OSV) that follows the world-renowned Stellenbosch Wine Route and offers wine tasting from award-winning wineries, garden walks, amazing views of historical buildings of beautiful Stellenbosch and the picturesque mountains and landscapes of the Simonsberg/Banhoek and Jonkershoek Valley. You spend an allocated amount of time at each winery either sipping wine or exploring the wineries and their unspoiled beauty.
Stellenbosch North Wine Safari
The Stellenbosch North Wine Safari is a great way to experience some of Stellenbosch’s leading wineries. These wineries include Stark Conde which has the famous Postcard Cafe to purchase something to snack on and a huge koi fish dam for the young to enjoy, secondly, Rustenberg which boasts of a beautiful Schoongezicht garden on their property, which is open for day visitors and then ends with Glenelly with some great wine and beautiful views of Stellenbosch.

Stark Conde
The beautiful picturesque viticulturally ideal Stark Conde Wines lies at the foot of the World Heritage UNESCO site, the Jonkershoek Valley. The slopes of Jonkershoek provides a pristine valley which is perfect for red varietals, with an elevation of between 150m up to 600m above sea level, which provides a correspondingly broad range of fruit characteristics such as the signature varietal of Stark Conde, the hand-crafted Cabernet Sauvignon having won it’s producer numerous awards in South Africa and globally.
Rustenberg
Rustenberg Wines has a rich history of exceptional wine making on the farm dating from 1724 by different custodians. Rustenberg Wines has lots to offer besides award winning wines. Their cultural history, lavish gardens to roam through amazing views of Stellenbosch, Cape Dutch style building, dating as far back as early 1800’s and even a labyrinth to walk for the spiritual at heart.
Glenelley
A wine estate whose history spans over 250 years lies on the lower slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain with winemaker Luke O’Cuinneagain who has worked in the world famous Bordeaux region as well as Napa Valley in the US. With a great balance letting the varieties express themselves and letting them tell the story of the vintage by keeping it as natural and organically as possible. Take the stairs down to the Glass Museum and take a trip into the history of glassmaking and of ancient and contemporary glass which is considered modern works of art.
Banhoek Wine Safari
Nestled between the Simonsberg, Drakenstein and Jonkershoek mountains lies the Banhoek Valley. As you venture up the Helshoogte Pass from Stellenbosch, you will find a fine example of ultra-modern and enormously sophisticated wines. These include wines from, Thelema Mountain Vineyards, Rainbow’s End, Zorgvliet Wine Estate and Le Pommier Wine Estate.
The tour starts and ends at either at the Stellenbosch Hotel (Stellenbosch Central) or at Lanzerac Hotel & Spa.
In order to avoid disappointment, make dining reservations at least 24 hours in advance of travel.

Zorgvliet
A tranquil setting on the foot of the Simonsberg mountain with its vineyards on the slopes of the mountain overlooking the Simonsberg Valley and Surrounded by mountains which was inhabited by animals in the early days and with the option estate wines and take a walk through the farm feel one with nature. With generations behind them and anecdotal stories of the labels and personal touch of the family owned farm, makes this wine farm a firm choice.
Rainbow’s End
A family estate laying high on the slopes of the Jonkershoek Mountains overlooking the Banhoek Valley. The valley is unequivocally perfect for red wines, thus they only grow red and use all their varietals in their range. While enjoying some award winning wines, take in the scenic mountains, and on some days you might be lucky to spot a rainbow (A promise after the rain) or even witness a “MYSTical event”
Thelema Mountain Vineyards
A wine farm that has been described as “one of the most beautiful places on earth”, lying on the south eastern slopes of the Simonsberg mountains. The high altitude and the rich red soils are ideal for premium quality wine grape production. They have a movie-themed t-shirt for the staff every year, so it will be good to test your movie knowledge, they are for sale.
The wine safaris are family friendly, so bring along the kids for an all-inclusive bonding experience!
